Netball courts across the Northern Zone were buzzing with energy as Centres welcomed young people and families to Give It a Go Days, an exciting way to mark the start of the netball season and open registrations.
Centres including Waiuku, Auckland, Bay of Islands, Northern Wairoa, Kaipara, and Howick Pakuranga hosted events that saw fantastic turnouts of children keen to give netball a try. For many, it was their first experience of the game and discovering how fun netball can be.
Where training schedules allowed, GoSweetSpot Norther Northern Mystics and Stars players joined the celebrations, jumping on court to play games, take photos, and connect with young players. Their presence added real excitement and inspiration, helping to create memorable experiences for participants and families alike.
Give It a Go Days provide a welcoming, low‑pressure opportunity for new‑to‑netball or return-to-netball juniors to get involved, make new friends, and feel part of their local netball community. The days also play an important role in spreading the word that netball is back for the season and registrations are opening.
Northern Wairoa Netball Centre highlighted the positive impact of the day, sharing:
“We were incredibly grateful to have Northern Mystics players Maia Wilson and Peta Toeava come along to deliver sessions. They were absolutely amazing with the kids. We have a few kids that expressed their interest in playing netball for the first time which was awesome. We also connected with a lot of junior coaches. It all ran very smoothly, we had great support from parents and our committee, and we would love to run one next year.”
Across the Zone, parents, volunteers, and committee members played a crucial role in ensuring the days ran smoothly, creating safe, inclusive, and fun environments for everyone involved.
Give It a Go Days continue to be an awesome way to kick‑start the season, strengthen connections within Centres, and invite new players into the game. Netball Northern thanks all Centres, volunteers, and players who helped make these events such a success and we can’t wait to see even more young people hitting the courts this season.
