In partnership with New Zealand Police

If you're already training and playing netball, you're off to a strong start. The fitness, discipline, and team mindset you bring to the court are the same qualities New Zealand Police are looking for in their recruits.

That said, it's important to prepare specifically for the Police Applicant Test (PAT). Their fitness standards are designed to ensure candidates are physically ready for training at the Royal New Zealand Police College (RNZPC) and a career in frontline policing.

The PAT covers four elements:

2.4km run – completed within a set time (typically under 10 minutes 30 seconds, depending on age and gender)

Press-ups – timed, with strict form requirements

Vertical jump – measuring explosive power

Grip strength – tested in both hands

Each component earns points, with a minimum of 11 points needed to pass overall.

Become part of a team beyond the court

Policing is a career where teamwork truly matters — just like on the court. It's about being part of a tight-knit team that relies on each other in high-pressure moments, with a shared commitment to keeping communities safe.

Fit for work, fit for life

The fitness journey doesn't stop at recruitment. Police Officers are required to pass a Physical Competency Test (PCT) every two years, starting during training at RNZPC. Staying match-fit isn't just part of the job — it's part of the lifestyle.

Get a front row seat to the action

Curious about what life as a police officer really looks like? The New Zealand Police YouTube series Ride Along is back by popular demand. Each episode offers a real (and entertaining) glimpse into a policing career — from dog bites and speeding drivers to a missing parakeet and drug busts.
