The Netball Northern Summer Squad has wrapped up an energising three-week programme, bringing together 49 talented athletes from across the Zone, with a mix of promising U18 players and emerging performance-level athletes.

Held across Netball Waitākere and AUT Northcote Campus, the programme included three high-intensity training sessions designed to build core skills, strengthen training habits, and prepare players for the season ahead.

Our athletes were guided by our exceptional performance coaches Tia Winikerei, Rob Wright, Pete McInnes, Melissa Bessell, Ripeka Pire and Paula Smith, who delivered position-specific development, gameplay learning, and a deeper understanding of what it takes to thrive at the next level.

A strong education component supported the on-court work, with sessions on:

  • Fuelling for Performance with NetballSmart’s Amelia Pascoe
  • Athlete Habits with GoSweetSpot Northern Mystics midcourter Tayla Earle
  • Importance of Recovery with Mystics physiotherapist Jess Harrison

Coaches were also part of Summer Squad development, with 16 Coach Squad members joining the programme for hands-on development, supported by Tania Heap and Rob Wright.

The Summer Squad continues to play a crucial role in strengthening Netball Northern’s talent pathways and nurturing the next generation of performance athletes and coaches.
